The World Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) 2024 International Conference was held on September 24-27 in London and Paris. The conference focused on "New or Renew: Adressing the Density Dilemma" and featured a series of discussions on the issues facing the world's construction industry.
More than 1,300 delegates from more than 50 countries around the world participated in the conference, and over 300 speakers shared the latest progress in tall buildings and the future development of cities around the topics of technological innovation, building renovation, urban renewal, climate change, carbon reduction, and equitable housing. Speakers showcased their deep expertise to the audience and expressed their commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering to continue shaping city skylines around the world.
Mr. Sheng Kai, Founder, President and Principal Architect of Akaia Architecture, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a speech on the team's design works, Shenzhen Venture Capital Building and Seoul YJ Tower. The projects in Shenzhen and Seoul exemplify two distinct but complementary approaches to sustainable urban design by Akaia designers. The Shenzhen Venture Capital Tower represents the rise of innovative new buildings and new urban spaces, addressing the challenges of a fast-growing region through design that maximizes the use of space and enhances the urban experience. YJ Tower in Seoul showcases a strategy of urban rehabilitation, regeneration, and transformation of an existing building into a new facility that meets modern needs by expanding the existing structure into a mixed-use space.
